Weather Conditions Warm and Favorable [December 25, 2005 @ 11:29am]
Hello all of my lovelies! Today is such a glorious day! The birds are singing, the trees are palmy, the boys next door are pretty hot...

Okay, the reason I'm so...well, delirious now is probably because I've finally gotten out of cold, snowy Michigan and into the warm, sunny state of Florida!

Right, so even though we drove down (like, 20 hours of sheer torture), Istill managed to survive through it all because of one two important things:

1. My iPod.

2. Laptop on which Icould watch movies. This saved my life so much. If I didn't have this, Imay not have the sanity to sit here and type this up for all of you. On the way here, Iwatched the wonderful movie Garden State and then (shamefully) Charlie's Angels. But you know, this was the first one, not the stupid sequel.

So, Iam currently updating this from our private pool deck. It is extremely gorgeous -- the pool throws this greenish light on its surroundings and it would be on the walls too...but there are no walls Yep, all screened nets. I'm able to wear pajama pants out here and a t-shirt without a winter jacket! Istill can't get over that fact.

As we were coming down, there was this moment where Ilooked out the window from my movie and noticed this sudden change -- instead of huge evergreens and maples, there were palm trees! Palm trees everywhere -- at first Ithought they were all put in manually like what would happen if someone in Michigan tried to buy a palm tree, but then Inoticed that they actually grew naturally! It doesn't feel like winter at all...it looks like spring, feels like spring, and it especially smells like spring -- like rain and budding seeds and a sort of tropical freshness.

Well, it's eleven thirty now and the stars have come out and it feels like I'm sitting right underneath them -- but with no mosquitos, which is the most important thing, of course. Iwill be sure to fill you all in with my oh so exciting adventures here in Florida as soon as Iget another chance -- along with all these photos I've taken.

EDIT: Oh. My. God. There was just a frog here. A real, live frog that wasn't in the zoo. Ithink I'm going to pass out.

But wait! Here:

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE, EVERYONE!!

Busy Weekends Suck, Don't They? [December 18, 2005 @ 6:56pm]
I realized that although I love playing laser tag, I'm unfortunately not very good at it. It's unnerving though, to shoot little kids -- even if they are on the opposite team! I have a feeling that every time I raised my gun to shoot something, my hand-eye coordination suddenly disappeared during that moment and came back when absolutely no one was around.

Let's see...oooh! On Saturday, I walked into Barnes and Noble to buy a present for my brother and then noticed that Mitch Albom was going to be there today and signing books! So yes, of course I bought a copy of The Five People You Meet In Heaven again and waited in line for half an hour to get thirty seconds with him. What kind of nerd do you think I am? So now I have a lovely, autographed and messaged copy.

Our gingerbread house is finally finished, although during the end, an accident occurred involving white-frosted walls, a spill of red food dye, and a setting up with Lego people of a battle scenario to cover up for it. Otherwise, things went very well -- in fact, we didn't even make a gingerbread house -- we made a gingerbread CASTLE. Ooooh la la. (Maybe I'll post pictures up if you're good this year.)

And....tagged by [info]zazenica

Ground Rules: The first player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits of yours" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about their 5 quirky habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.

1. When I get nervous, I keep crossing and uncrossing my fingers and rocking back and forth on my toes. Which, you know, really makes for some interesting class speeches.

2. When I get really, really, really bored, I go to the TV page on Yahoo! and memorize the television schedule for the next week. Just so I'm prepared, you know.

3. I can always tell when I'm getting sick or my allergies are coming up when it takes me freaking forever to get sneezes out. They're always right there at the end of your nose and just won't come out.

4. If I don't end up sleeping on the left side of my body, I feel disoriented when I wake up.

5. I keep a hand towel over my alarm clock because the display light is waaaay too bright and never lets me get to sleep.

Hee, so I tag:

[info]amillionlights

There. Have fun meme-ing!

This makes me laugh waaaay too much [December 15, 2005 @ 7:41pm]
[ mood | amused ]
[ music | Oasis, "Some Might Say" ]

Gacked from [info]white_tulips, who wasn't even mentioned in this at all, GASP.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Tuesday I gave [info]satirise a kidney (1000 points). Last Sunday I helped [info]zazenica across the street (6 points). Last Friday I helped [info]amishpixie hide a body (-173 points). In September I donated bone marrow to [info]eschivir in a life-saving procedure (300 points). Last Wednesday I pulled [info]xdreamsxhopesx's hair (-5 points).

Overall, I've been nice (1128 points). For Christmas I deserve a new bike!

Sincerely,
starburst1237

Write your letter to Santa! Enter your LJ username:

I've been good! I've been good!!!!

Heehee. Half snow day today (we got let out at one o'clock), which doesn't make any sense: Why didn't you just cancel school altogether then, loser?! Now, all the snow's stopped and we won't get a real snow day tomorrow.

Let's see...I gave Kirsten a kidney because I am just waaaay cool like that and my kidneys are in hot demand. Not because I actually know her or anything. Pshhh.

And helped Jenna across the street because she had fainted after she heard her happy news (again, congrats so much!)

And Katy got the bone marrow because I'm a talented bone marrow-giver after she spent so much time with her new boyfriend. :)

And I only hid Sara's body because she blackmailed me into it anyways.

And pulling Kalina's hair? So? That happens every day anyways.

One more week of school. I can do it. I can. I can.

....

....

Alright, damn it, I'll stop listening to Oasis and go do homework! Happy now?

EDIT: I am currently listening to Under Pressure by Queen.

WOOO! LET ME OUT!!

C'mon, you know you all love Queen. Or at least Under Pressure.

Oh, and by the way, Vanilla Ice is a scamming bastard.

So Boooooring.... [December 14, 2005 @ 5:50pm]
I just realized how truly boring of a person I am.

1. My username is starburst1237. Just look at it: starburst1237. Out of all the infinite possibilities to choose from, I chose one named after a candy that I don't even like that much with four numbers after it. If, for some unnatural reason, I ever become better-known around the Internet, good luck trying to find the exact number combination of it. (Four numbers! How unoriginal is that?!)

2. I laugh at puns that second graders don't even laugh at. And for the majority half the time, I make up the puns myself.

3. To decorate shoes for the German holiday, I chose the Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe for a theme. I made little children out of suckers with Twizzler-pieced arms and Tootsie Roll legs. And I actually had fun doing it.

4. We were having an argument in bio today. "The second dish has bacteria that look fuzzy"..."Don't say fuzzy -- that's such a second grader word. How about hair-infested?"

5. I will spend my upcoming weekend A)Making snickerdoodle cookies for a project, B)Piano lessons, C)Tutoring, D)Birthday thing with laser tag, E)Tennis lessons, and F)Making a gingerbread house for a class. Notice how nowhere in there do I mention anything about actually having a social life? Going out and, ahem, partying? Wooo, Linda's the life of the party.

6. I left a glass of water out overnight so I could see the little air bubbles inside it.

7. I sat down here and typed this up instead of doing my cool math homework. Notice how I didn't say "instead of going out with my friends" or something.

8. I just spent the entire phone conversation I had with my friend on volunteering at the library. Not gossiping, not talking about things like movies or stuff, but Goodwill. In the middle of this, I discovered that my magnetic glasses case attracted a nearby AA battery. I then became shamefully excited of this and told my friend.

All of you, run away now. Run away before I infect you with my boringness.

Gobble, Gobble! [November 24, 2005 @ 9:41pm]
And although...

It's been said....

Many times, many ways....

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

To you all!

(And no, I haven't forgotten about your writing thingies. I'm working on it. And thank you all for replying.)

Ooooh....wasn't GoF awesome? Definitely the best Harry Potter film yet. Although Emma Watson needs to get control of her eyebrows.

And guess what else makes me happy besides half-naked British boys?

Making my Christmas list! Yay for Christmas!

(I'm grasping at straws here, can you tell? Although I do sound like a seven-year-old.)

Anyone else watched Vh1's I Love the Holidays?

"See, Christians have all these cool characters. There's Santa, the Easter Bunny, you even have the Grinch! Jewish people don't have no characters. I mean, who would want to steal Yom Kippur?!"

Oh, and I watched a little bit of Grease too. Back when it was still alright for John Travolta to shake his hips in public and not disturb anyone.

Yay for pointless posts, I guess.

Christmas Songs [November 07, 2005 @ 4:59pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | Silver Bells ]

I've always had a soft spot for Christmas carols. I mean, if you've ever been in the car with me, it's always me insisting on the channel that starts playing them November 1st while everyone around me is groaning and changing it back to the alt rock station.

I always go into every Christmas knowing that near the end, I'll be so sick of the snow and cold that I'll be back to wishing for sun and warm weather, but right now when the air has a bite in it and the hot chocolate and fireplaces are just around the corner, I can't ever imagine feeling that way.

I guess it's just something that changes during Christmas. Even the people who don't celebrate the holiday all of a sudden have a brighter smile on their face, open more doors for people, and there's just a general buzz of life all around.

And then when you go shopping around, there's always these cheery decorations up that blink and twirl around. Red and green are opposite colors, and I've always thought that opposite colors look bad next to each other, and maybe it's because we've gotten to used to it, but I actually enjoy looking at them now.

I'm going to formulate a plan to bottle up those Christmas-y feelings, and then sell it, then retire as a millionaire, and make Christmases all throughout the year. Who's with me?

Ads [October 23, 2005 @ 11:40am]
[ mood | lethargic ]
[ music | Sneezing ]

Little ads that they stick into magazines annoy me.

You know, like the ones that are advertising you to renew your subscription or something, even though they always send you a renewal form at the end of each year anyways or things that you're supposed to mail in to check out your BMI comparison to the average or crap like that. It makes flipping through the magazine so hard because you never get the pages in between the ads, you just flip from ad to ad.

Did that make sense? It did in my head.

It also annoys me when the light switches aren't all facing the same direction. When the lights are all turned off and all turned on, it doesn't look good if the switches aren't all pointing down or all pointing up. That way, it's hard to switch on a light because while I normally flip the switch up to turn the light on, sometimes my brother screws around with the switches and then I end up having to flip down to turn the light on, which totally doesn't make sense.

...Can you tell I'm procratinating right now?

I Hate You, Michigan [October 06, 2005 @ 8:31pm]
[ mood | confused ]
[ music | Vonage Commercial ]

Okay, WTF?

Yesterday, the high was 84 degrees. Tomorrow, the high is 57.

Stop it, Michigan. I don't know where you get it from, but you are not that special. I know you're surrounded by lakes and all, resulting in the "strange weather", but really. This truly is the state where you can get a sunburn and frostbite in the same week.

Cut some slack for the people living here, alright? I can't pack up all my summer clothes yet, and I can't take out all my winter ones yet, resulting in a horribly messy room.

Stupid freaking Michigan weather.

Hmm... [September 29, 2005 @ 6:02pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]
[ music | Jennifer Lopez, "I'm Real (Murder Remix)" ]

Jennifer Lopez got her singing contract purely because she was in Selena. What's up with singers/actors thinking they can become actors/singers because they've made a CD or been in a movie. Take Paris Hilton. What, being a socialite means you also have singing talent too? Please. Crap.

I was walking outside after school, and I saw someone in front of me.

Just the back of him...I didn't know his name, didn't know anything about him except for that he wore a black top hat and a large trenchcoat. He was quite a character.

I'm getting itchy fingers. Maybe I'll base a small snippet on him.

Today...

Amy (hobbles over in crutches, due to a knee injury): Bye guys, see you later.
Nick (gets up and goes with her): I'm going to go ride in the elevator with Amy.
(Shocked silence from Maggie and I.)
Nick (shakes his head): Not that sort of way, perverts.

Kristin (looking at Max's student ID card): Wow, Max, I didn't know you went to Plymouth!
Max (rolls his eyes): No, I really got to Canton, I just have a Plymouth ID card for the heck of it.
Me:...Why?

Mr. Guinta: Alright, listen up! Boys, girls, and everyone in between like Cassidy!
Dan Cassidy blushes.
Mr. Guinta: Oh, sorry I told everyone your secret there, Cassidy.

He's the first teacher I have had to refer to most people by their last names. It reminds me of Harry Potter. :)

[ music | Fall Out Boy, "Sugar, We're Going Down" ]

You know, I love autumn and all that, but the one thing I cannot stand that comes with it are...

...allergies.

I don't know how many of you out there suffer from allergies too, but for me, it's horrible. My eyes itch so much that I feel like I'm rubbing them out and I'll go blind. My nose is alternately runny, then stuffy -- sometimes one nostril runny and the other stuffed, which makes things just a bit awkward. Then my throat itches deep down, and I end up pathetically trying to use my tongue to relieve it, which obviously, never works.

And then my parents don't believe in drugs. "You'll make the allergy even stronger" -- that's their philosophy. Right now, I could care less.

And all this happens while I'm in school, which makes learning quite difficult. How am I supposed to be concentrating on U.S. Government when I'm rubbing my eyes to the back of my head?

Alas, the sad, sad life of a seasonal allergy sufferer.

P.S.: The first time I heard this song, I couldn't understand what he was singing in the chorus. Come to think of it, I still can't quite understand it.

Gum [August 29, 2005 @ 6:25pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | Ben Lee, "Ache For You" ]

I've been chewing on this piece of gum for so long that my head is really starting to hurt, near the temple's area.

But if I stop chewing, there's suddenly this empty void in my mouth. And I stay chewing.

Wonder what that says about my life?

If you could compare your life to one inanimate object right now, what would it be and why?

Bye,

Hair Cut [July 23, 2005 @ 8:32pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | "On Top", The Killers ]

I want to get my hair cut.

The only problem is, I have no idea what to do with it.

I've been keeping it up in a ponytail for the past half of my life...a low ponytail for practicality purposes just to make sure nothing gets in my face. People have expected the ponytail from me, and then in turn, it's caused me to depend on the ponytail. It's kind of funny how just a hairstyle can put so much of an impact on a person, isn't it?

Random thoughts pop up in my head whenever I'm anywhere away from pencil/paper or my computer. There's so many things I'd love to share with you guys, but when I finally sit down in front of the screen, I usually:

a) forget what I was going to say

or

b) don't quite feel comfortable enough for everyone to read it

And then I think it's too much trouble to go email someone so they can read all about my ramblings about the curious way clouds can create shadows on the roads.

I wonder what would happen if I came to school with a mohawk....

I'm BAAAAAAACK!!!! [July 10, 2005 @ 8:55pm]
[ mood | ecstatic ]
[ music | Acceptance, "Take Cover" ]

Yes! Ah, just breathe in the fresh scent of livejournal. How I have missed you, my computer with Internet access! How I have lusted for you day after day, staring forlornly at my useless desktop with no connection to anywhere whatsoever.

PSA: For an update of my life, here is what I have done with myself since May 22nd, 2005:

-Went kayaking in which my mother tipped over.
-Went to the 89X birthday bash in which I saw....THE KILLERS, Keane, Social Distortion, Z-Trip, Unwritten Law, Louis XIV, Tegan and Sara, Sum 41, Brendan Benson, Hot Hot Heat, Acceptance, Motion City Soundtrack, and so much more. And yes, I met The Killers, who signed the free posters they were giving out (isn't Brandon Flowers hot?), and I met Keane who signed my CD cover with the best accents ever, and managed to snap three pictures of Hot Hot Heat.
-Flew to Maryland to compete in National History Day with my documentary.
-Went to Nike Tennis Camp which, I swear it, has the cutest guys. We played for eight hours outside every day for five days. I got shin splints on my second day, and two huge blisters popped out too.
-Started summer school, meaning that I still have to get up early every morning to go through Health and Personal Fitness.
-Went to a wedding and at the reception, talked to Jeff and Matt (another two hot guys) for two hours. (What is it with summer and all these guys popping up everywhere?)
-Seen one of my best friends off to China where she will live for the next three years.
-Ordered an iPod 6GB mini which should be coming in next week.

I will of course, now spend the rest of the night gobbling every bit of livejournal goodiness and basically, Internet goodiness that I can.

[May 14, 2005 @ 6:11pm]
[ mood | awake ]

How is it that our sleep patterns change so much within the space of a few short years?

Does anyone besides me remember getting up at the crack of dawn on weekends and running downstairs to watch cartoons until my eyes burned? It was so hard for me to get up during the weekdays, but on Saturdays, it was BAM! I'd suddenly have this spring of energy inspired by hours upon hours of Angry Beavers and Rugrats.

Today, I'm lucky if I can make it out of bed before ten o'clock. During school days, my alarm clock rings and I lay in bed wondering, it would feel so good to turn it off and continue sleeping. In fact, I like endulging in that fantasy so much that sometimes I wonder whether or not I should just turn on my alarm clock on the weekends and then finally act out that dream.

But I'm too lazy to give up even two minutes of precious sleep time then.

I feel guilty being inside on a good day.

[ music | The Used, "All That I've Got" ]

This weekend went surprisingly well for me.

I knocked down a Science Olympiad state competition on Saturday, which I was really surprised by. I placed fifth in one event, which I thought was one of the worst ones that I did. But, whatever. Still happy for it. Although, couldn't they have made the fifth place medal a different color ribbon? Bright yellow? Totally clashes with everything.

At the same time, my History Day competition was going on, which I was not able to attend. Corinne did go, and she tried her best to step into my place. *pets Corky on head* It's alright, deary. Not everyone can be like me. :)

And guess what? We made it to the national competition! It's going to be held in Maryland during the last week of school.

You wouldn't know it, but these geeky competitions have some nice guys. Like, hot guys. Except for even better because they're hot and smart.

Then on Sunday, I got my new digital camera! It's a Canon Powershot A520, which I feel really guilty using right now because I still haven't gotten a battery recharger and I'm just using up tons of them. But, not guilty enough to stop using it.

I was Derek today. It was fun. Especially when I found out that he was a transgender. Then, it became exciting.

I'll be just fine/pretending I'm not

I cannot believe I am so sore.

I can't belive that I am so out of shape. I knew I wasn't as good as I was last year, but I didn't think I could sink any lower than I thought I could.

Screw that. This is why I'm NOT doing track next year.

I'm in love with LotR icons.

Rohit: (looking at judge's comments from their presentation) They thought we were stinking?!
Brett: No, idiot. That says "striking".
David: You'd be the reason why we were stinking.

Ah. I remember the good old days where I played make believe. I'd take a bunch of shaving cream, toothpaste, and all sorts of things and dump them all into one cup and mix 'em all together. They liquidy concoction they turned out to be was white, and we had planned to give it to my friend's neighbor because she was so mean. We were going to put it in front of her door, ring the doorbell, hide, and have a piece of paper tapped to the cup saying: This is milk.

I hate corruption.
